What is a Program Instructor?
Program Instructors engage Middle and High School students from across the United States in controversial public policy discussions while using the nation’s capital as our classroom. They lead students through a life-changing educational experience which includes historic sites, iconic monuments and memorials, Smithsonian museums, meetings with elected officials and key public policy experts. Program Instructors facilitate multi-partisan issue-based debates for learning reinforcement.

I learned that there’s a huge network of people with the same goals and drive as me…
and that our collaboration really could make a difference. It gave me hope for the future of our communities and our nation!
Close Up brought me CLOSER to politics…
the entire notion no longer seemed obscure. I became very involved in politics on the local and national level.
I plan to introduce Close Up’s professional development to the teachers I work with…
and use this as a part of my school’s requirement that students take action on issues of local, national, and international importance.
As a government teacher, it’s nice to have more resources…
for teaching media literacy and having students critically think about the information they receive.
